Welcome!

The Pound Ridge Authors Society (PRAS) welcomes published authors and professional writers. Our members are residents of New York (Westchester County) and Connecticut (Fairfield County) who write adult fiction and nonfiction, young adult, and children’s literature. Founded in 2014, our nonprofit organization serves authors who are seeking to share book publishing experiences. We meet four times a year, often on Zoom, or at local libraries.

Meetings are lively discussions that range from brainstorming author platform, literary agents, marketing tips and advertising to social media options, book reviews, literary chats, reading, and writing.

What do writers say about PRAS?

Betsy Prioleau, author of Swoon: Great Seducers and Why Women Love Them published by W.W. Norton & Company (‘Bright prose, a thoroughly researched, irresistible, accessible look at ladies’ men’—Library Journal) advises “PRAS is an extraordinary resource and sanctuary for writers. This is the go-to place for support, inspiration, intelligent feedback, and up-to-date information. Unlike most writers’ groups, PRAS is without rivalries and infighting, and provides not only creative nourishment but a crack organization, with strong leadership and an outreach to the community that works.”

Garth Hallberg, author of Boon Juster or the Reason for Everything (‘An urbane think-piece of a novel’—Kirkus Reviews) says “Writing is a lonely business, especially if you’re not a thirty-something Brooklyn hipster. What PRAS does is help Northern Westchester authors connect to discuss their work, how to promote it, and reassure each other that they’re not stone cold crazy for pursuing their dream.”

Kathryn Haydon, writer, speaker, educator, creative-thinking authority, and author of Creativity for Everybody, published by Sparkitivity LLC, states “I am grateful to have found PRAS through an article in Bedford Magazine a couple of years ago. As a newer Katonah resident, it has been energizing to my work to be part of a vibrant community of supportive and incredible authors.”

Nancy Farkas, author of the award-winning and Amazon Kindle best seller This Nearly Was Mine, published by Archway Publishing, reports that “Writers of all genres and experience levels share their challenges, offer suggestions, and encourage members. I gained insight and knowledge about the writing, editing, publishing, and marketing processes from this unselfish group of authors and our dynamic co-chairwomen.”

PRAS co-chair Marilyn Tinter reflects, “As a librarian over these many years, and especially from my programming experience and long-standing relationships with literary professionals in Westchester County, I was happy to bring people like publisher/writer/agent Joni Evans to our group as a guest speaker. There is so much creativity and talent in this area, it is vital that we promote and provide a venue for authors.”

PRAS co-chair Paula Cappa, novelist and short story author (Greylock, published by Crispin Books (‘A mind-boggling mystery’—U.S. Review of Books) believes that “To achieve literary successes in this industry, colleague support and shared knowledge are essential. PRAS meetings have become a forum for craft and the business of publishing, and it is the many authors—their intelligence and diversity—who make that happen.”
